opportunity to lead an institution with a proud history and an outstanding reputation at a time when the University recently completed its
most successful fund-raising initiative, The Campaign for Every Individual, and is coming to the end of its current strategic plan,
Rich History, Bold Future, Ashland 2025. The new President will be greeted by a campus eager to move forward together with a new
leader capable of setting a bold, distinctive agenda for AU’s future.
Founded in 1878 in Ohio as Ashland College by its Brethren
forebears, the institution was renamed Ashland University in 1989, to reflect the many diverse undergraduate, graduate and professional
programs offered. Today, Ashland is an independent, comprehensive university that consists of four degree-granting academic colleges as well
as the prestigious Ashbrook Center, Ashland Theological Seminary, eAshland, and Correctional Education, the oldest and largest in the
nation. The University’s main campuses are located about one mile from downtown Ashland, a charming city with a population of about 20,000
full-time residents; the Dwight Schar College of Nursing and Health Sciences is in Mansfield, Ohio. The City prides itself on its
friendliness and provides easy access to Columbus (82 miles away), Cleveland (66 miles), and Akron (50 miles) metropolitan areas.
Ashland seeks a president who believes in the mantra “Teach Students How to Think, Not What to Think,” has proven success as an
innovative, financially-savvy leader and has excellent credentials as a unifier and collaborator. The University expects the next president
to be a Christian who honors Ashland’s long history and religious heritage and who will lead the campus in identifying its competitive
niche, preparing the University for a sustainable financial future. Complete details about the opportunity can be found by following this
